Many children in Haiti do not have the luxury of going to school. Many minds become wasted, as the days are filled with wandering about in settings of abject poverty. It is important to fill the mind with light, and work with the children teaching classes, eliciting ideas and discussion, singing a song, learning a poem. We have developed 11 "street schools", going to the children in their settings and trying to make a small imporvement in their lives. These schools give nearly 3000 children a chance at learning every day. We have secured funds so far to give half of these children a daily meal. Over the next months, starting in February 2007, we will feature one school each month on this page. During this time you will get a closer look at what we are doing, how we are doing it, and why. We need to prevent young hearts and minds from being wasted.
